Carbon Footprint

TGI Lighting Devotes to Reduce Carbon Footprint of LED Product Life Cycle

Global warming and its impacts on human beings and on global environments are worsening extremely.  The contunuely increasing carbon dioxide emission is one of the critical factors causing deterioriating global warming more and more serious.    According to research data of Research Center for Environmental Changes, Academia Sinica in Taiwan, energy consumptions and carbon dioxide emissions are more and more serious.  The averaged annual carbon dioxide emission of each induvidual increased significantly from 5.73 tons to 11.25 tons during the period of 1990 to 2005 in Taiwan.  The overall carbon dioxide emissions rise to 0.259 billion tons in 2005 if using 23 millions of gross population as the calaulation base.

From a reaearch report in Taiwan, saving a unit of electricity accounts for reducing 0.612 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions.  There are about 7.5 million households in Taiwan, totally will then save 2.7 billion units of electricity every year and will reduce 1.72 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions accordingly.  Have you learned that nearly 50% of the emitted carbon dioxides are associated with electricity consumptions among which 17% comes from lighting?  It is obvious that reducing energy consumption, reducing carbon dioxide emission and saving electricity are vital important toward envirnomental protection and the global ecology.

At present, there is no well-accepted universal specifications for “calculation and testing of carbon footprint” in international community.  Taiwan is in the early stage of promoting “calculation and testing of carbon footprint”.  The Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs has been launching a facilitating program on helping companies to calculate the carbon doxide emissions of products and targeting LED industry as the pilot industry.  The purpose is to encourage manufacturing companies in alalyzing the carbon footprint of products that in turn will help consumers discovering alternative green energy-low carbon commodities.

Top union Globaltek Inc. (TGI) is a professional manufacturer providing LED green lighting-energy saving products.  We have been devoting into technologies and applications associated with green-energy and environmental protection to enhance quality of LED green lighting since established in 1993.  To advocate green policies of “energy-saving, carbon reduction and environmental protection“, TGI is conducting a comprehensive assessment about “calculation and testing of carbon footprint” proactively.  We are to integrate our aerospace grade heat dissipation know-hows, modular light engine design, patented super power saving technologies and excellent manufacturing advantages to effectively reduce the carbon dioxide emission of LED luminaries directly and indirectly during the entire product life cycle.  This is our dedications and endeavors to better protect the global ecology.

What is “Carbon Footprint”?

“Carbon Footprint”can be defined as the produced carbon dioxide emissions directly and indirectly from an activity or during the entire process of product life cycle.  The calculation of product carbon footprint can be conducted through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).  Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is to evaluate influences and impacts of products on the environments during the entire process of life cycle including minning or/and procurement of resources at the front end, handling, transportation, product usage at the back-end, re-utilitation, maintenance, recycling, and the final disposal.  The illustration at right demonstrates scopes of the carbon footprint.
